Through a number of platforms, ATEC, Honeywell and Pratt & Whitney have provided the armed forces with the tools needed to accomplish their current missions while also supporting them in their efforts to develop future aircraft, rotorcraft and other equipment.
The T900 is a perfect example of how an engine can meet the short and long-term needs of the Army. With Black Hawks and Apaches currently flying in a number of Middle East countries (as well as stateside in hurricane rescue efforts), an engine that is more powerful, efficient and allows them to stay in the air longer will serve as a force multiplier in combat, assistance and support operations, in a manner that will save lives.
In addition to improving the capabilities of current helicopters, the T900 will incorporate into the Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) program. The long-term goal of FVL is to eventually replace Black Hawk, Apache, Chinook and Kiowa helicopters. The engine for these new platforms must demonstrate superiority to those in current rotorcraft. ATEC’s T900 will be at least 50% more powerful, 25% more fuel efficient and have a 20% longer engine life over the current engine powering Black Hawk and Apaches. Because of the T900’s dual-spool architecture, our engine also has 10% more power growth capability and greater fuel savings compared to other offerings for Black Hawk and Apache replacements and future FVL rotorcraft.
